The
Jesuit Conference of South Asia (JCSA)
is the Conference of Jesuit Major Superiors having jurisdiction
in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It
presently comprises the following 17 Provinces: Andhra, Bombay,
Calcutta, Darjeeling, Dumka-Raiganj, Goa, Gujarat, Hazaribag, Jamshedpur,
Karnataka, Kerala, Madurai, Madhya Pradesh, Patna, Pune, Ranchi
and Sri Lanka, and 3 Regions: Delhi, Kohima, Nepal.

EDWARD
MUDAVASSERY
|
The
Provincial of South Asia, who is also the President of the Conference,
has jurisdiction over the Assistancy Houses of Formation and the
Assistancy Apostolic Works. The Assistancy Houses of Formation
are: Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth (with Faculties of Theology and Philosophy),
Pune; Vidyajyoti College of Theology, Delhi; Sacred Heart College
Satya Nilayam, Chennai (Faculty of Philosophy); The Papal Seminary,
Pune; De Nobili College, Pune. He is also responsible for the
Tertianship programmes conducted in the Assistancy at Kandy (Sri
Lanka), Goa, Shembaganur and Hazaribag. The Assistancy Apostolic
Works are: Sadhana Institute of Pastoral Counselling and Spirituality,
Lonavla; the Indian Social Institute, New Delhi; the Indian Social
Institute, Bangalore.
The
Provincial of South Asia has oversight of the apostolic works
in the Assistancy through the various Secretariats.

LINKAGE
OF THE ASSISTANCY SECRETARIATS WITH THE MAJOR SUPERIORS OF THE JCSA |

To
enhance the functional effectiveness of the Secretariats of the
South Asian Assistancy and to create a sustainable and ongoing link
between the Secretariats and JCSA, it is proposed to attach one
or two Provincials to one or more Secretariats. These Provincials
will provide the guidance and inspirational challenge to these Secretariats
to strive towards excellence in their respective domains. |

Dear
Fathers & Brothers
Greetings
I am happy to announce that Very Rev. Fr. Adolfo Nicolas
S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus has appointed
Rev. Fr. Edward S. Mudavassery, S.J., (HAZ) as the Provincial
of South Asia. He will assume office on 31 May 2009. Fr.
Edward is currently the Rector of Vidyajyoti College of
Theology, Delhi. Fr. Edward was born on 20 November 1944
and entered the Society of Jesus on 20 June 1963. He was
ordained a priest on 18 May 1976 and made the final commitment
in the Society of Jesus on 21 June 1986. After a year
in Santal Mission in Hazarbagh, two years as Prenovitiate
Director and one year as the Socius to the Novice Master,
he served as Novice Master for 8 years before being appointed
as Provincial of Hazaribagh. He had a second stint as
Novice Master for 4 years after the completion of his
term as Provincial. After serving a year as Director of
Propedeutic Seminary, Punjab, Fr. Edward was appointed
Rector of Vidyajyoti Delhi in 2005.
Fr. Edward had done his secular studies in St. Joseph's
College, Tiruchi, Loyola College, Chennai, Psychology
in Gregorian University and Counselling in Ireland.
We warmly greet him on his appointment as Provincial of
South Asia and assure him of our fervent prayers when
he assumes this special ministry of leadership in guiding
the course of the Society in South Asia.
